Lesson 1
The 1st Conditional
What is a condition? It can be a situation, an act, a description. When we want to imagine a possible condition, we start with the word 'If.' If is a magic word. It opens the world to possibilities and exercises our imagination.
We imagine a situation and then the result or consequence.
Imagine the situation: If I have a headache, (Now, if that is true, what is going to happen? What will you do?)
Tell us the result: If have a headache, I will take an aspirin.
We're looking for a logical relationship between a cause (something that happens 1st) and a result (what the 1st thing causes to happen).
Logical: If she exercises more, she will lose weight. Illogical: If she exercises more, she won't lose weight.
Now, lets examine the structure of the verbs. Here we have 2 verbs but they are in different tenses (times).
If he works harder, he will get a raise.
The verb directly after 'if,' uses the simple present: I work, You work, We work, They work, She works, He works, It works
The result uses the future: I will get, You will get, He will get, She will get, It will get.......
Remember, after 'will' we use a basic verb. That means don't add an 's,' 'ed', or 'ing'.
Good: She will call. Wrong: She will calls.
This is complex grammar. It requires that you have a solid foundation of the simple present and the future.
If I study more, I will do better on the next test.
simple present future
If he eats too much, he will get fat.
simple present future
In class, students completed the sentences using 'will +base verb' or 'won't + base verb'.
Complete the sentences using the future (will/won’t) tense.

2. If I learn more English, ____________________________________________________________________
3. If I eat healthier, _____________________________________________________________________
4. If it rains, _____________________________________________________________________
5. If I have free time, _____________________________________________________________________
6. If I’m very busy, _____________________________________________________________________
